new recordings on margot and the nuclear so and so's myspace!

i'm pretty sure a good portion of the album is up, if you do enough sleuthing. there's a new player on there so i haven't really figured out the songs yet. junked out german motor car is up though, and that's all you need to know.

long live margot! it's about time for an actual new album. 2 1/2 years later. october 7th kids! i already pre-ordered mine.

not only do the new albums come out on october 7, but i will be seeing them in LA that night too! they are playing in san diego the next night, but i couldn't justify another back to back margot adventure on week nights when i'm already sleep deprived enough as it is.

jolene, we almost never met.

today eric sent me the album by Archer Avenue, Richard's (lead singer of Margot) band pre-margot. this is exciting for two reasons:

1) i love all things margot
2) i LOVE the song "jolene, we almost never met" which apparently was originally an archer avenue song

i have an old live recording of this song from a show back in 2004 or so. even though the quality is horrible, i used to listen to it all the time because it's SUCH a great song! anyway, you can listen to it here. i think i like the original non-acoustic version better, but this gives you the idea. good times!

you should probably watch the whole thing, but if you only care to see parts, it starts getting pretty good around 1:30 and on, particularly when she sings "the importance of body language, HAH!"

shoes on powerlines

i've been noticing shoes on powerlines a lot near my apartment recently. it started a couple months ago when i first saw the shoes down the street from my house, and then i couldn't stop seeing them.







there was another pair that got taken down, as well as a pair i haven't photographed yet. that makes 7 altogether. all of these are within a sunday afternoon leisurely bike riding distance.

if you name your kid Barack you're unpatriotic.

gas leak!

so, at mika today i got an email from my roommate hilary. she told me that our gas was going to be turned off but it should be working again in a couple of days. i didn't hear much of an explanation at first, but the whole thing was really annoying to me because last week they randomly shut off our gas without telling us and it was out for 2 days.

when i got home today i heard the whole story: apparently our gas has been leaking 15 cubits per hour for the last WEEK. we never smelled it, but i guess there were some electricians working on the lights in the yard in front of the apartment who smelled it and called the gas company. they did some investigating and determined that the entire front lawn was soaked with gas, and if someone had been careless and lit a match or thrown a cigarette, our apartment would have gone up in flames and been incinerated.

so anyway, the next few days will be spent with construction workers and jackhammers drilling into the cement and laying new pipes. in addition to taking out the cement in front of our house, they are ripping out a whole bunch of stuff in the kitchen, drilling holes into the ceiling, and completely replacing the wood paneling that covers the entire wall next to one of the heaters. since we will have no gas with which to heat things, we will be showering and cooking in the vacant apartment next door.

on the bright side of things, since they are replacing the wood paneling, we won't have to fill the holes that we hammered into the wall for my awesome/bad art birthday party.
