the office in real life, part 24

dav takes fun food friday VERY seriously. case in point:

i talk to several solicitors a week, even though i have this very direct sign on my desk. well, Dave decided to place the new office mascot (Nebuchadnezzer aka Nebbie) on the sign. no joke, this week since he sits there glaring, every single solicitor that has walked in the door has looked at the sign and immediately turned around and walked out. so far i have counted FOUR that have done this. nebbie is my hero!

the office in real life, part 23

our HR manager's office wouldn't unlock, so we called a locksmith. the locksmith couldn't get into her office either, so we sent our new marketing guy (today is his second day of work) in through the ceiling.

my favorite part is when the locksmith and our HR lady help boost him up.

you can't make this stuff up people. you just can't.

the ongoing saga of the clock

okay okay okay. this is the longest/most complex prank i've ever been involved in. so, you might remember the clock that the fazakerley's and i were passing back and forth.

well, i gave it back to them by leaving it on jeff's nightstand. then they mailed it to me. then i baked it into a cake. then their plan was to give it to our friend josh who works at the trader joe's i go to all the time, and he was supposed to bag in my groceries one day. that didn't happen because josh lost it, and thus ended the saga of the clock....or so we thought.

one day last May when jeff and emily were in tanzania on a mission trip, i came home to a package on my front porch. it was the clock. where did it come from? and where had it been the last 8 months? and how did it get on my porch when the fazakerley's were in africa? turns out josh found it in his locker at work and decided to drop it by the house.

keep in mind, the fazakerley's had no idea i got it back in my possession. as far as they knew, it was lost forever. so while they were in africa (and i had a key to their apartment) i hid it in a box that i knew they wouldn't open until they packed up and moved across the country to virginia (3 months later). all summer i patiently waited for the moment they would unpack and BAM, the clock would be waiting for them. sure enough, my plan worked and emily found it shortly after arriving in virginia. shocked, they planned their return attack:

i was in chicago about a month ago for work, and i stayed a few extra days to hang out with my bffs, the mcmakens. the day before i left, bonnie told me she had a present for me. not sure what to expect, i started to open the plastic bag in my hands and immediately knew...emily had mailed bonnie the clock to give to me. i couldn't believe it.

so now i have the clock back, and the fazakerley's live across the country, and i have to think of a way to top that. i could mail it to them...but that's boring. i could take it to them whenever i end up visiting....but that seems too obvious. or...emily mentioned a guy named chad once. let's see if i can track down that guy and have him give it to them! it will be funny and unexpected, just like bonnie giving me the clock.

what transpired was so much better than i could ever imagine.

information i know about chad: he lives in virginia and his name is chad. i pull out my mad facebook stalking skills and send him a message explaining who i am and why i need him to be a part of something great. like the awesome person i now know he is, he totally agrees. just send it over to him and he will figure out the "best way to get it to them." okay, random guy i don't know. this is kind of a big deal, so please don't ruin it for me by giving it to them in a lame way.

so today i'm at work minding my own business when i get a text from jeff:

jeff: "how in the hell...."
me: "what?"
jeff: "well played..."

about 2 minutes later i get this text from emily: "well played, bringard. well played."

what on earth happened?! chad, what did you do??

i still don't really get all the details, but it turns out that chad is the props manager for regent, or the theater department, or this play that jeff is in, or SOMETHING (help me out, fazakerley's...) and knew that jeff would be going to pick up some props today. so he HID THE CLOCK WITH THE PROPS! jeff goes to find props, and BAM! the clock is sitting there. i only wish i had been able to see the look on his face. i imagine his thought process going a little something like this: "how did this get here? who is involved in this? mikkele doesn't know anyone at regent, so HOW DID IT GET HERE?"

well played CHAD. you are my hero.
i invite you to top that, jeff and emily. good luck and godspeed.

the office in real life, part 22

walked by zarik's office the other day and found this...

the office in real life, part 21

in case you didn't believe me or just thought i was exaggerating, i promise, i'm not the only one who thinks the office feels like a tundra.

then the time came

big things are happening 'round here, but now is not the time to discuss them. more on this later.

in other news, i'm going to start writing again. writer's block: i officially revoke your squatter's rights.
